Helps a family build strength, stability and self-reliance

Building shelter

Habitat for Humanity South Australia supports disadvantaged families to access safe and secure shelter by funding the cost of a small number of new homes and coordinating the various tasks and tradespeople involved during construction.

Habitat for Humanity South Australia is committed to building safe, decent, and affordable homes in partnership with families on low incomes. We are excited to announce the opening of applications for families seeking a transformative opportunity to achieve home ownership. Case study: Providing accommodation security in a tough time

Habitat’s latest project is supporting a family of five with construction of a home in Two Wells, north of Adelaide. Two of the three children in the family have serious medical conditions which means they are unlikely to reach adulthood, and the father has been diagnosed with cancer.

Habitat for Humanity South Australia’s Executive Officer, Louise Hay, says the family that will benefit from the Two Wells home epitomises Habitat’s mission to support those in need.   “The family are so appreciative of the opportunity they have been given. They have already been cleaning and tending the site during construction, and take every opportunity that arises to thank the builders, trades people, and donors who are creating a safe and secure living space with this property,” Ms Hay says.

Habitat for Humanity South Australia’s building program, involving more than 30 homes over the past decade, has transitioned from a ‘sweat equity’ model where the recipient family actively participated in the construction of the dwelling to a partnership model with a building group.

Construction company, The Hot Property Group, has generously provided pro-bono project management of the latest home build which has also been supported by donations of building materials by Dulux AcraTex and concreting services by CB Foundations.
