case study: providing accommodation security in a tough time

In 2023 Habitat for Humanity SA completed the construction of an accessible home in Two Wells, north of Adelaide for the Lovett family a family of five. Two of the three children in the family have serious medical conditions which means they are unlikely to reach adulthood, and the father has been diagnosed with cancer.
Habitat SA’s Executive Officer, Louise Hay, says the Lovett family has benefited from moving into the Two Wells home which epitomises Habitat’s mission to support those in need. “The family are so appreciative of the opportunity they have been given. During the construction, they cleaned and tended the site during construction, and took every opportunity to thank the builders, trades people, and donors who are creating a safe and secure living space with this property,” Ms Hay says.
Habitat SA's building program, involving more than 30 homes over the past decade, has transitioned from a ‘sweat equity’ model where the recipient family actively participated in the construction of the dwelling to a partnership model with a building group.
Construction company, The Hot Property Group partner with Habitat and generously provide pro-bono project management. This home was also affordably build due to the support of donated of building materials by Dulux AcraTex and concreting services by CB Foundations.
how it works
People in our community and all over the world partner with Habitat for Humanity to build or improve a place they can call home. Partner families help build their own homes alongside volunteers and pay an affordable loan.
With our help, Habitat SA homeowners achieve the strength, stability and independence they need to build a better life for themselves and their families.
